Kim Johnson
My work has been described as being otherworldly or like walking through wild dream scapes. I seek the extraordinary within the ordinary and continue to find fascination with our existence and infinite diversity. Microcosms mirror macrocosms creating shifts in perceived reality for me. My work reflects the wonder of this, whether pondering a teaming microscopic community or observing and taking part in human community I find endless parallels and contrasts in perspective and natural systems.
My process continually shifts and changes. I gather urban salvage while sifting through downtown dumpsters and walking allies of the city or hiking urban desert dumps within and surrounding the area. I feel there's a residual of life or stories attached to these materials. They make their way into the studio to be bridged with figurative and organically abstracted painting. Finding the translation between the materials and the liquid movement of paint is compelling for me. It’s an ongoing experiment in discovering the subconscious within our inherited and natural conditions. The development and creation of Trifexy is an exploration in artistically expressing what it means to share human spirit through artistic collaboration. It is what it means to inspire without imposition or agenda. It is to band together in trusting that artistic expression can heal, thrill and bring people together. It is a union of three studios to execute in wild experimentation while in liberation from many of the modern ways that are imposed upon us daily. Trifexy is sanctuary and an opportunity for life-long friendships and inspiration. Trifexy is shared love and strength. The final works of art feel like artist journals or unearthed artifacts organically brought together by pure intuition of the human soul. |
Biography
Kim Johnson received a Bachelor of Fine Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with studies in Environmental Sciences and Ecology. She brings together a unique perspective on the world through art. Rich in diversity, the natural world is a perfect place to explore process, experimentation and practice to in turn creatively express commonalities and familiar patterns in every day interaction and life.
“Evolving shifts in nature juxtaposed with perceived reality, ultimately create wild dreamlike landscapes for me. By rearranging or abstracting figurative shape and landscape, forms come together in a composite driven by curiosity in humanity, environment and natural diversity.” Piecing or layering shapes and forms, figures, systems, and landscape create a sort of textured visual “earth diary,” or "layered cake" of natural successions or conditions revealing an environment reinventing itself. This process is as an ongoing experiment with the subconscious while layering it with inherited natural conditions. www.strangedaysandstardust.com |
